Choosing the right compressor is more important than ever. During a 5-year period, electricity costs represent up to 87% of the total costs of a compressed air system. In many cases, there are simple measures that can be taken to make a compressed air system more energy efficient. Our energy balance system - EBS - makes it possible with concrete measures and improvements.
The graph shows a typical distribution of the costs of a compressed air system. Energy consumption is by far the biggest cost and offers the best potential for savings. Based on measurements and long experience, we can find good solutions that provide more efficient operation and cut costs where the effect is greatest.

The equipment
Vestec carries out analyzes using specially made logging equipment which is connected to existing facilities. We can measure up to 8 compressors at the same time.
Our method consists of 3 simple steps.
Measurement
The power consumption of each compressor is logged at the same time as the mains pressure. Other parameters such as temperature and pressure dew point can also be measured. Measurements take place for a continuous week to give a correct picture of the consumption profile and the variations that occur in production. In some places it is also necessary to measure for a longer period than 1 week. We then carry out several measurements in series and present the results in one or more reports.
Analysis and results
The software that analyzes the results provides detailed results from each individual machine and the big picture. The measurement results are presented graphically together with a report that explains each graph and what can possibly be improved. Vestec can then carry out changes in configuration or equipment according to the customer's wishes and based on recommendations as a result of the report. There are big gains to be made here. The profits increase with the size of the plants.
Simulation
When replacing equipment, we can simulate different configurations of equipment and find the optimal solution from a documented consumption profile. This is the key to finding the best solutions for optimizing specific energy, Pspec.
Specific energy, the most important parameter for efficiency
This is the most important and only parameter that tells something about how efficient a compressor is, regardless of make. There are many people who play tricks with the numbers to make a compressor appear more efficient than it is, because of the amount of air it delivers, without saying anything about how much current the compressor draws. Then you only tell half the truth.
When we simulate and choose a configuration, it is this parameter that we always give the highest priority to.
